New homes for our Peru Dogs!
We’ve got some wonderful news to share regarding out street dog Rescue Project in Cusco, Peru.

The shelter has recently moved locations to the outskirts of Cusco. There were a lot of big tasks involved in the move and some of our volunteers put in many extra hours to help get the new location ready. They were busy building new shelters for the pups, rooms to prepare and store food in, clearing rubbish and excess materials out of the new location, painting etc. and the job of moving the dogs there.

The new location is bigger so there is more room for the dogs to run around and play – also meaning the shelter can take more dogs in, plus room for more volunteers! One of the biggest improvements is that the project now has running water on site – meaning that it doesn’t need to be transported daily (a huge relief for the project managers)! We want to give a special thanks to our volunteer, Stephanie, who was a great help during the move on her 12-week placement.

One of our dogs got a new home a bit further afield, when Rebecca, one of our volunteers ended up adopting one of our furry friends to take home back to Canada! She fell in love after volunteering at the shelter for 3 weeks. We wish them the best of luck and hope he’s settling in fine in Canada. Here they are at the airport!

With the increase in size of the new shelter, and the opportunity to take on more rescused four-legged friends, now’s the time to get volunteering.  The main aim of the project is to nurture maltreated, malnourished dogs back to health through treatment and care from veterinary students and volunteers – and where possible, placed in to adoptive homes.
