Volunteer spotlight: Ailbhe
Ailbhe, from the UK, spent a few weeks at our wildlife sanctuary in Laos and we’re so excited to share her experience.
I booked my trip with no experience of Laos or volunteering abroad but between the staff at the rescue centre and everyone who works at Globalteer, I felt really well-informed and looked after.
Volunteering at the Wildlife sanctuary turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life. The centre is beautiful, with lots of open space and freedom to explore. I even got to stay in my own cabin with a beautiful porch that opened out onto the grounds.
Life at the Sanctuary
Life is very relaxed at the centre, and in Laos in general, so all the work we did was at the volunteers' own pace and was centred as much possible on what we were interested in.
Day-to-day activities involved feeding animals, making and distributing enrichment, cleaning enclosures and helping with the construction of new enclosures, among other things.
Making an Impact
I really felt as though I made a difference during my time in Laos. I could see the centre changing and improving before my eyes, which is something I never expected. I would recommend the experience to anyone.
